The Trust Technique® is an educational organisation that highlights the value of trust for animals and people. Recognising the importance of the animal-human relationship in both personal and sociological change. As we explore and bridge the connection to animals with regard and kindness.
The Trust Technique is based on the theory that deepening the bond between people and animals can transform the lives of both. It uses mindfulness and focused presence techniques as a basis for resolving problems and enhancing communication.
Daily practice of the Trust Technique creates a shared peace of mind and reduces anxious over-thinking, one of the main causes for so-called “behavioural problems”. This dynamic approach does not objectify animals, but rather recognises all animals as sentient beings and transcends an unhealthy approach of dominance or control. Promoting trusted cooperation, which leads to healing and communication that manifests in shared well-being.
The Trust Technique can help all sentient beings with a gently profound non-dominant approach.
Since 2019 Anna has been a certified Trust Technique Practitioner, qualified to teach people and their horses. The Trust Technique has added immense value to Anna’s way of working with horses and coaching people. It is now a life style rather than a technique.

When horses are left to roam freely, they will forage plants growing in calcium-rich soils, and then travel miles in another direction to consume plants rich in phosphorus for the balance. A horse's natural instinct is to self-regulate. In domestic life it is our responsibility provide the nutrients and vital minerals that horses would ordinarily be able to forage for themselves in the wild. Not all horses are able to self regulate, research shows us that the gut health plays a crucial role in the well being of the whole horse, and their metabolism, thus their ability to know what is good for them and what is enough, therefore it’s important to keep in mind that every horse is a unique individual.
Some horses do great on rich hay and pasture but some have a unique microbiome profile, and “have a higher percentage of two species of prolific sugar-digesting bacteria called Treponema bryantii and fibrobacter succinogenes.
Both bacteria have a unique metabolism called an orthogonal lignocellulose metabolism, meaning neither species relies on the release of enzymes from other bacteria before they can start digesting sugar. Rather these bacteria manufacture their own enzymes and proteins for digesting ANY type of sugar and they do this at speed.
A horse with this type of microbiome will be very hard to keep on any kind of pasture and may also struggle with hay.
Both bacteria are acid-loving which can lower the pH of the hindgut. A more acidic hindgut kills off the good gut bacteria and those that digest fibre more slowly. There is an increase in endotoxins and damage to the gut wall, inflammation, and mild/subclinical laminitis or ‘footiness’. “ equibiome.com
Supplying certain plants and dried herbs can greatly help these individuals, as well as creating custom nutrition plans. Hair analysis is a great tool to help us gather more information about the horse.
We can help our horses gut to be in optimal health, and recover from years on unethical nutrition, or breed predisposition.
A barefoot trim is far from a shoeless trim. Barefoot trimming aims at simulating what would naturally happen in the wild, where horses walk 15-20 miles daily. Giving attention to all parts of the hoof and the hoof weight bearing pillars allows us to keep all horses comfortable, restore health and correct imbalances, and pathology over time.
I choose a stress free path to working with horses and their hooves, recognizing the horse's body, mind and soul as a whole, working at the animals pace and closely with care takers to find the most appropriate way for each individual and their unique body. Taking into consideration nutritional needs to help overall health, metabolism and the hoof quality improve, considering environment/footing and emotional health: shared feelings.
Over the course of six years I have trimmed hundreds of horses and I have never stopped learning and observing with an open mind. With each horse has expanded the way I look at hooves, and after working with some of the most severe cases, both at our own facility and at the clients home, I started noticing a pattern. Some horses healed quicker than others, some struggled more and some relapsed. The ones who did better were the ones treated with a whole horse perspective in mind. Which is what I invite horse owners to take into consideration when helping their horses heal from pathology and thrive. Everything is connected and we can help every part work together in harmony. My approach is completely non violent and I work with horses who are experiencing pain, fear or confusion with a mindful approach .
